I love laid back jobs

So this photographer I'm working with. Hes pretty awesome. In being a boss AND taking pictures. If I ever get married I want him to take the pictures. Anyways, This is what I do. I do hair and makeup on either seniors in highschool and actors getting headshots. Then I play DJ for a while and make sure they don't need anything. Then I can leave. And sometimes when I don't leave we have a beer after the client is gone. I am definitely ok with this :)

Why is making money so difficult?

So I got the position for the photographer! Thank god! There's only one problem. It's not as often as I would like. 1 maybe 2 times a week. The pay is alright, but I have things to pay off and others to buy and more to save for. Hopefully he starts using me more, but as of right now I need something else. I'm really starting to hate this business. Money aspect only. We all get jipped out of what we really work for. I'm tired of it. I want to work, but I also want to make enough money to support myself, which isn't happening very quickly. I'm at a loss. I don't know what to do anymore.

Today.. we filmed

I woke up at 4 am this morning to get to LA by 6 to spend 3 hours trying to apply a fat face prosthetic that was too big for my talents face and had HORRIBLE edges. But thats what happens when you don't/can't make your own prosthetics. But the day went well. My friend Jill came by to help me with the fake crackheads, but left before we encountered the real ones. I think we shot everything we needed. I hope so cause we're not doing the fat suit again! Poor Trek. He's a trooper wearing that thing all day in the heat and under the lights and dancing. I would've cried. All in all it was successful. (why does that word not look right?) Anyways, I'm totally exhausted! I'm gonna try to make it to the hot tub tonight. Might need someone to carry me. That's all. :D

This new movie!

HEY! I'm working on this comedy about redneck karate! Its really funny, if you have that kind of sense of humor, I guess. I love inappropriate things. I make fun of everyone and everything, so it's right up my alley. But the kicker is that we need to raise $10,000 by Sept 9 to get funded for the rest of the movie. I think it would be worth it. Just watch the webisode. It's going to be a lot of fun non the less. :D Here's the address..

When People Don't Call Back

I hate it! Especially hen they get back to me and say that we need to get together and/or schedule a time and day to talk about a job, but they never get back to me when I email them back with my availability (which is pretty much whenever they're free) or even call and leave a message. So frustrating. I don't mind if I didn't want to work for them anyways, but when  actually DO want to work with them its just disappointing. :( sad face.

I FOUND IT!!

OH MY GOD!!! I found the fat face and cheeks prosthetic I needed yesterday. It pretty much takes up the whole budget and I wont really get paid, but I don't even care anymore I feel so accomplished! And I actually get to do a prosthetic!!! WhooHoo!!

The Things We Want

I'm working on this video with some really great people. But they want to do a fat suit. The have the suit for his body, but they need prosthetics for his face. I had no idea these were hard to find. I've looked everywhere!! We're gonna have to make them, but I don't think we have the budget. Sigh...

This has nothing to do with makeup.

So, a couple months ago I met this guy. I will not mention names, or places or anything that will give away who he is. Sorry. Anyways, I met this guy. We immediately got along and were fast friends. He tells me things before he tells other people, but I dont think thats really a big thing. I mean, we dont talk a lot, just every once in a while, and sometimes I see him when I go to the town he lives in. But we hung out the other night, I had a great time and he was all worried about me driving home at 2am. Cute. Honestly, he is the most beautiful man I have ever met. Looks wise yes, I'm still getting to know him, but from what I do know we get each other. Here's the catch. I could fall in love with him if I let myself, but I won't. I don't think either of us are in a place to start anything anyways, but I feel that it would just end in disappointment and heartbreak. He actually planning on moving out of state probably, so it just wouldn't be worth it. And I'm definitely ok with being friends. We could become very close friends if we let it. CHEERS!

Some people out there

Last week I got a call about a job. I said I could do it and I waited for her conformation email. And waited. So I'm at another job yesterday. No phone service and no internet. When I finally get service I get a message from a guy saying he's working with me on a shoot the next day. What? So I go home and check my email and there's information about the shoot the next day which happens to be in Antelope Valley. Not very close. So I email her back and said that I didn't get any information from her so I had scheduled something else, but I could see if I could reschedule it. She writes me back a nasty email saying that I'm unprofessional and I should make sure I can and want to do a job before I say I can. So I calmly write her back to say that if I had gotten conformation, it would have been different. Because that is the first time I haven't gotten conformation for a job. So, don't call me unprofessional, when you aren't.

Just a Thought

The worst part of this job is that people can't afford to pay for a makeup artist so they want you to do it for free. Student films for example. Everyone else is in school and filming as a learning experience. While they hire professional working makeup artists and can't pay them. I understand that its good to get contacts because that is how you get into the business and I've done my share of free work, but free work doesn't pay the rent or bills. I'm sorry that I can't afford to do makeup for free for your project, but I use products that cost a lot of money and I just can't afford to keep myself afloat AND buy new products to keep working on your films. Sometimes it makes me wonder if they have the money but just don't want to pay, because as of right now a lot of people will take what they can get. Don't get me wrong, I've done a lot of cool low budget stuff and have met some great people, but I'm on the verge of having to move into my granddads place because I'm not making any money. I'm 25 years old. I don't want to do that! So don't blame me if I lose my interest when you say there's no pay.

Here's an Idea

I'm applying to a lot of the western ski resorts for this next winter coming up to be a snowboard instructor. I am certified, though it has expired, but I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to activate it again. But really. How much fun would that be? Makeup Artist by summer and Snowboard Instructor by winter. I would get the extremities of both weathers, but I think I can handle that. Kitty and I would move every six months, but that's OK. I've gotten used to moving by now. And yes. I take my cat everywhere I move to. Don't judge. It would be an interesting life. Busy as all hell and probably pretty hectic but so much fun. Doing the two things I love to the most and not having to choose. Now all I have to do is squeeze animals handling or Zoology in there somewhere. :)

Let's see what happens

So, here it goes. I'm a makeup Artist in the LA Area. (obviously, because if you're reading this you probably know me) But it's been a struggle. I've had a few low budget jobs and I got my name listed on IMDB (which I was pretty excited about) but unfortunately it's not paying the bills. Which forces me to look for another job who will be ok with the time I take off to do films. So far there's nothing. I've even started applying to places and jobs where I have no experience whatsoever, just in case. Though I did get on to a feature which will be funded but thats not shooting until the middle of September and on to October. So my problem is finding a job, saving enough money to get out of my apartment and find someplace else to live, and be able to take the time off for the feature. If I can't find a job then I'm still moving out, but back to Newport, which is a commute to LA. It's not bad, and I would rather do that then stay where I am, but it's a little inconvenient when I do have a gig. So there are my problems! HA! Onto being a new makeup artist!

I graduated from MUD in March and have already gotten a few features and countless little jobs. Even though they don't pay much or even at all, they're still worth every minute. I love it! I have met so many great people on these sets! The funny thing to me is that on every set, when I'm done for a while and just sitting there spacing out, someone is always worried that I'm bored and not having a good time. I may get bored, but I'm always having a good time!

Just Starting

Ok. I'm new at this, and for those of you who don't know my writing, I write the way I talk, so sometimes it may not make sense. Sorry. :)
